Flower Care
Flowers are at their best for 5-7 days after being cut. To keep your flowers as fresh as possible, we recommend the following steps:
- Keep the string tied around the stems if you want to retain the shape
- Using sharp clean scissors, cut 2cm off each stem at a 45° angle as this creates a larger surface area for the flowers to drink from
- Place the bouquet in a clean vase large enough to allow the stems to reach at least halfway down. Fill the vase with water and add flower food
- Remove any fronds and leaves that are in the water as they will decompose and contaminate the water, killing off your flowers
- Place the bouquet in a cool position, away from heating or cooling vents and out of direct sunlight or draughts
- Keep the flowers away from fruit - the gas that is given off when ripening will kill your flowers
- Refresh the water in your vase after 3 days and continue to top up the vase daily
- If your hydrangeas begin to droop remove them from the vase and submerge its head in a bowl of water for 2 hours, then carefully remove and re cut the stems before returning them to your vase of fresh water
- Lily pollen can stain. If it gets onto fabric, dab off with sellotape. Do not use water.
